Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland and Labrador (FES-NL), in consultation with Environment Canada and the Canadian Hurricane Center, advises that Tropical Storm Ophelia has moved out to sea and is not expected to have any further impact on the province.

However, the Department of Transportation and Works advises that, due to heavy rainfall and flooding associated with the storm, a number of roads have been closed on the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas. No major washouts have been reported.

A number of local roads in various communities may be impacted with shoulder washouts or standing water.

Current provincial road closures information is as follows:

Burin Peninsula:

Bonavista Peninsula:

Motorists are advised to use caution when travelling as heavy rains have caused shoulder damage and flooding in some affected areas.

The Department of Transportation and Works and FES- NL are continuing to monitor impacts and make repairs as conditions allow.
