Embree to Receive New Firefighting Vehicle

The community of Embree will receive a new firefighting vehicle in spring 2012, thanks in part to a Provincial Government partnership. Funding for the vehicle has been allocated as part of an unprecedented investment in the municipal fire service announced through Budget 2011.

“The calibre and commitment of the men and women of the volunteer fire service throughout Newfoundland and Labrador is truly impressive,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services. “The Provincial Government acknowledges how strong partnerships with our municipalities and local service districts help to provide for safer communities for residents. I am pleased to build on the many successful initiatives already underway with today’s anticipated announcement for Embree.”

Embree will receive a new firefighting tanker truck through a 90/10 cost-share arrangement with the Provincial Government. Public tenders for new firefighting vehicles will be let this summer, with delivery expected in 2012.

“This announcement of a new tanker truck for the Embree Volunteer Fire Department is good news for such a dedicated group of individuals,” said Wade Verge, MHA for Lewisporte. “A modern, efficient vehicle will provide a level of service never-before seen in this area, assist in further training initiatives, and help to encourage more brave individuals to become part of a revered volunteer community service. I congratulate these firefighters on this important milestone.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides a historic investment in the municipal fire service. An investment of $3.9 million has been allocated for new firefighting vehicles, as well as a continued $1 million allocation to fund equipment needs to assist communities. With the addition of a new Provincial Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit to acknowledge the commitment of the men and women in the volunteer fire service, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $6 million towards the municipal fire service this year.
