Municipal Capital Works Announced for Carbonear - Harbour Grace District
Through the 2011 Municipal Capital Works program, communities in the Carbonear - Harbour Grace District will receive approximately $3.1 million in Provincial Government funding to complete municipal infrastructure projects.
“Improving municipal infrastructure continues to be a priority for the Department of Municipal Affairs and I am pleased to see such important work continue this year,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Communities in the Carbonear - Harbour Grace area will benefit substantially from this year’s Municipal Capital Works program and I look forward to the work commencing.”
Carbonear will receive significant support from the Municipal Capital Works program for seven road improvement and water and sewer projects. As well, funding will be allocated to Victoria for upgrades to Church Road and to Spaniard’s Bay for upgrades to Church Hill Road.
“Ours is a growing region and I am pleased the Provincial Government has recognized this by supporting our infrastructure,” said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, MHA for Carbonear - Harbour Grace. “Along with the funding allocation for new projects this year, $1.3 million previously allocated will be spent to commence phase three of Harvey Street upgrades in Harbour Grace. Residents have certainly noticed the infrastructure work which has occurred in the area and I look forward to the improvements these new projects will have on their communities.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador included $140.8 million for new and ongoing municipal infrastructure projects. When combined with federal cost-shared programs and municipal contributions, the total investment this year is expected to be approximately $219 million.
