Daylight Saving Time to Begin March 13

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded that extended Daylight Saving Time comes into effect this weekend. On Sunday, March 13, clocks should be moved ahead by one hour as of 12:01 a.m. Clocks will revert to Standard Time on Sunday, November 6.

“Residents of our province are reminded to appropriately adjust all of their clocks to reflect this time change to Daylight Saving Time,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services.

“As we spring forward with this time change it is also an opportune time for each of us to conduct a safety check of our homes and ensure that both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are properly functioning,” said Minister O’Brien. “Further, as our province has experienced adverse weather events in recent months, it is also important to ensure our homes are equipped in the event of an emergency situation. Important components of preparedness are emergency and fire evacuation plans which all households should have and all family members should be familiar with.”

The extension of Daylight Saving Time was adopted by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in January 2007, and provides an additional one month of Daylight Saving Time to the province. The Provincial Government made the change to ensure that the daylight saving time pattern is consistent with other Canadian provinces and the United States.
