Public Advisory: Changed Telephone Numbers for
Reporting Problem Wildlife Encounters

The Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division of the Department of Justice has implemented regional telephone numbers for the public to report nuisance or problem wildlife. The public is reminded that in addition to enforcement responsibilities for fish and wildlife, the new division is also responsible for addressing nuisance or problem wildlife matters involving animals such as black bears and polar bears, coyotes, moose and beavers. This carries on the reporting process when wildlife enforcement was a responsibility of the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency of the Department of Natural Resources.

These phone numbers correspond with the regional structure for the Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division as follows:

The Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Division reminds the public that wildlife activity significantly increases along our highways this time of year and throughout the summer months. All wildlife are unpredictable and best observed at a distance. Drivers should exercise caution and reduce speeds especially at night as the likelihood of injury from collision with wildlife is higher between dusk and dawn compared to daytime.

The public is reminded to report any serious motor vehicle accidents involving wildlife to either the Royal Canadian Mounted Police or the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
