Increased Activity Opens the Door for New Accommodations in Marystown

Braxton Suites in Marystown has opened its doors to guests, with the support of a $226,000 term loan from the Provincial Government. The new business development is set to capitalize on commercial and industrial activity in the Burin Peninsula, as well as satisfying demand for extended stay facilities.

“Sufficient accommodations are a key piece of infrastructure to have in place to foster and encourage new developments,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development. “With more industrial projects occurring in the region, Braxton Suites will complement the list of lodging choices while contributing to the local economy. In addition, extended stay guests are increasingly seeking more amenities and services.”

Constructed to meet Canada Select standards, Braxton Suites is the Burin Peninsula's only four-star efficiency unit/vacation home facility offering services and amenities currently not available through other accommodations. Opened in July 2011, the 13-unit efficiency unit and vacation home facility will attract extended stay clients such as tourists, oil and gas industry executives, trades and business persons.

“Braxton Suites are high end accommodations that will cater to individuals looking for a luxurious place to stay on the Burin Peninsula”, said Clyde Jackman, MHA for Burin Peninsula West. “To have four-star suites built in Marystown shows the economy on the Burin Peninsula is continuing to grow.”

The President of Braxton Suites is Gerald Brenton, a Marystown-based businessperson. Mr. Brenton has 15 years experience in managing and supervising pipefitting projects in fabrication and oil and gas industries.

“Recognizing a gap in the local marketplace, we wanted this new facility to be first rate with a four star approval rating from Canada Select,” said Mr. Brenton. “The Braxton Hotel offers guests a suitable venue for both short and long-term rentals. With assistance from the Provincial Government we have been able to achieve our objective and keep our commitment to quality. The response to date has been favourable and we look forward to many years success.

This initiative was funded through the Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise (SME) Fund, which through Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, has nearly $13 million available for investment. Administered by the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, the fund is available for start-up, modernization, or expansion of a business venture in key growth sectors.
