Bellevue to Benefit from Job Creation Partnerships

Seven individuals will carry out important infrastructure improvements in the Bellevue area through three Job Creation Partnership projects. The Provincial Government is supporting these projects through an investment of $62,367 under the Job Creation Partnership program.

“Residents of Bellevue will benefit from many community infrastructure improvements as a result of these project approvals,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. “Along with seven individuals utilizing their skills and gaining valuable work experience, the projects will have a long-term positive impact on the region by helping to enhance community development.”

Job Creation Partnership program funding is provided through direct contributions to sponsors or through the extension of Employment Insurance benefits for project participants and may include in-kind or in-cash contributions from sponsors. Examples of potential partnership initiatives include maintenance and repairs to community infrastructure, such as town halls and churches, the beautification of public areas, and funding to support local events.

“I am very pleased for these organizations and all residents of the Bellevue area,” said Bellevue MHA Calvin Peach. “The Job Creation Partnership provides opportunities for employment for residents as well as infrastructure improvements that are very beneficial to the project sponsors, as well as the communities as a whole.”

In November 2009, responsibility for Labour Market Development Agreement programs and services, including the Job Creation Partnership program, transferred from the Federal Government to the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. Since that time, the Provincial Government has delivered approximately 475 projects with a total value of nearly $22 million, providing employment for over 2,250 individuals.
