Public Advisory: Update Provided on Delivery of Income
Support
and Public Pension Cheques
The departments of Human Resources, Labour and Employment, and Finance wish to advise that income support and public service pension cheques scheduled for delivery on June 15 or 16 have been mailed through Canada Post as of today (Thursday, June 9).
Based on discussion with Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, it has been determined that income support and public service pension cheques due June 15 or 16 can be delivered through the mail. The Provincial Government will monitor the ongoing postal disruption and this process will be reassessed ahead of the next pay period (July 1).
All other Provincial Government payments, including supplementary income support benefits; wage subsidy payments; labour market program funding; government vendor payments; child support and spousal payments; community support services; and student loans will continue to be delivered via alternate methods.
While it is fully anticipated that individuals in receipt of income support or public service pensions will receive their cheques on time, and in some cases early, in the event they are not received by June 16 individuals should contact 1-888-313-9356 or TTY 1-888-729-5440.
Direct deposit payments are not affected. Those payments will take place on the originally scheduled date.
More information on the contingency plan for Provincial Government payments during the Canada Post strike can be found at www.gov.nl.ca/postalstrike.
