Final Report of Voisey’s Bay Industrial
Inquiry Commission Delayed

The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for the Labour Relations Agency, has advised that the final report of the Voisey’s Bay Industrial Inquiry Commission has been delayed and will be submitted to the Provincial Government by May 6, or shortly thereafter.

“The Chair of the Industrial Inquiry Commission, John F. Roil, QC, recently notified the Provincial Government that due to additional time needed by outside parties to complete academic research required by the commission, a further short interval of time was needed for the commission to complete its report,” said Minister King. “I have instructed Mr. Roil to forward the final report of the commission as soon as possible, as the Provincial Government is looking forward to considering its findings and recommendations.”

An Industrial Inquiry Commission was appointed in October 2010 to investigate matters tied to the protracted labour dispute that occurred at Voisey’s Bay, Labrador between the United Steelworkers Local 9508 and Vale Newfoundland and Labrador Limited. The commission consists of John F. Roil, QC, as inquiry chairperson, and Randell Earle, QC, and Brian R. Gatien as inquiry members.
