Enhanced Health Care Services Announced for Buchans

The A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre in Buchans has received $636,700 for capital equipment, repairs and renovations through Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Our government has been actively addressing the needs of communities throughout the province as we continue to move forward with investments in health care infrastructure,” said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services. “The health centre in Buchans services several surrounding communities and its value to the residents of this area is significant. Investments in this facility benefit everyone that uses these health services and through these upgrades it will continue to serve health care needs for many years to come.”

Of this funding, $600,000 has been allocated for upgrades to the rooms used by the facility’s residents, as well as for the replacement of the building’s shingles.

“The significant investments in the A.M. Guy Memorial Health Center over the last two years have resulted in tremendous improvements to the health care infrastructure of this hospital,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans. “As a result, clients and medical staff can be assured of better health care services for years to come.”

This facility will also benefit from $36,700 to refit its emergency rooms, and for the purchase of a new microscope and vaccine fridge.

“The residents of Buchans and area rely on the health services here at A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre,” said Karen McGrath, CEO, Central Health. “The announcement of investments in this facility ensures access to quality health care services for the people of this area.”

Over the past number of years, over $2 million has been allocated by the Provincial Government for the A.M. Guy Memorial Health Centre for infrastructure upgrades and equipment, including the purchase of a coagulation analyzer, haematology analyzer, bed replacements, new ambulance, x-ray unit, and installation of a nurse call and sprinkler systems.

Budget 2011 furthered the Provincial Government’s commitment of advancing health infrastructure with a total investment of $272.2 million, which includes $200.6 million for new and continuing construction and redevelopment projects, $50 million for new equipment and $21.6 million for repairs and renovations.
