Funding Provided for Health Care Fundraising Initiatives

Recognizing the valuable work of health care foundations throughout the province, the Provincial Government is continuing to invest to enhance the fundraising efforts of these organizations. Over the past year, $800,000 has been allocated to this end.

“Health care foundations across Newfoundland and Labrador have demonstrated continued commitment to fundraising on behalf of the residents of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services. “Our government is pleased to provide support to various foundations for the purchase of new medical equipment that will improve health care services in our province.”

Health care foundations that recently received funding from the Provincial Government include:

  • The Health Care Foundation which received $150,000 towards the purchase of a digital cardiac ultrasound system;
  • The Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation which received $100,000 for the purchase of new equipment to enhance treatment of prostate cancer and an operating room bed;
  • The South and Central Health Foundation which received $43,000 for a pediatric probe for echo services, a bladder scanner, and vacuum assisted biopsy equipment for the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor; and,
  • The Discovery Health Care Foundation which received $25,000 towards the purchase of medical equipment for two operating room suites at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville.
  • “These foundations share in our government’s commitment to ensuring enhanced access to quality health care in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Minister Kennedy. “The equipment purchased by these foundations complement the substantial investments made by our government as we continue to improve access to programs and services throughout the health care system.”

    The Provincial Government continues to invest in health care infrastructure throughout the province, including $272.2 million announced this week in Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador. This funding includes $200.6 million for new and continuing construction and redevelopment; $50 million for new equipment; and, $21.6 million for repairs and renovations.
