Stephenville Crossing Seniors Group to Benefit from Age-Friendly Grants

Funding under the Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Grants Program continues to benefit seniors’ organizations throughout the province. The Provincial Government is investing $200,000 in this year’s grants program. The latest group to receive a grant through the program is the Stephenville Crossing 50+ Club.

“Seniors’ organizations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador are taking an active role in putting the supports in place to help keep people active and healthy later in life,” said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Health and Community Services and Minister Responsible for Aging and Seniors. “Our government is committed to supporting healthy aging and is therefore pleased to be able to provide financial support to organizations such as the Stephenville Crossing 50+ Club.”

The Stephenville Crossing 50+ Club will receive $9,000 to operate an entertainment and education program that will promote independence and participation in the community.

“I am very pleased that the Stephenville Crossing 50+ Club will avail of this grant to help provide programs for the seniors of Stephenville Crossing,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education and MHA for St. George’s-Stephenville East. “Healthy living is such a valuable initiative to friendly aging, and this will now be promoted to the residents of this area.”

First launched in 2010, the Age-Friendly Newfoundland and Labrador Grants Program is one initiative of the Provincial Healthy Aging Policy Framework that was launched by the Provincial Government in 2007. Grants are provided to incorporated municipalities, Inuit community governments and reserves, as well as seniors’ organizations and retiree groups throughout the province. In 2009-10, $200,000 was awarded to 10 municipalities and 13 seniors’ organizations.
