Media Advisory: National Day of Mourning Ceremony

The Honourable Harry Harding, Minister of Government Services, will participate in a wreath laying ceremony tomorrow (Thursday, April 28) to commemorate the National Day of Mourning for workers killed, injured or suffering from industrial illness. John Dinn, MHA for Kilbride, will also participate. The event begins at noon at the Main Lobby, East Block, Confederation Building.

The National Day of Mourning, held annually on April 28, was officially recognized by the Federal Government in 1991, eight years after the day of remembrance was launched by the Canadian Labour Congress. The Day of Mourning has since spread to about 80 countries and has been adopted by the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) and the International Confederation of Free Trade.
