City of Corner Brook Charged with OHS Violations

The Department of Government Services announced today that the City of Corner Brook has been charged with violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in relation to an incident that occurred in March 2009. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch.

The incident occurred on O’Connell Drive, and involved two city workers who were struck by a car as they were patching the road surface. Both workers sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

The City of Corner Brook has been charged with five violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations which relate generally to its alleged failure as an employer to provide a safe workplace and to ensure that effective means of traffic control were provided, especially with the use of flagpersons.

The first appearance is scheduled for March 1, 2011 at Provincial Court in Corner Brook.
