Newfoundland and Labrador Participates in Boston Seafood Show 2011

The Provincial Government will continue its long-standing tradition of participation in the International Boston Seafood Show in 2011. This is the most prominent seafood show in North America and provides an opportunity to promote the fishing industry to buyers and stakeholders from around the world. As in previous years, the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture will have a booth at the trade show, being held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 20 to 22.

“The Boston Seafood Show is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador’s excellent seafood products to buyers from the eastern United States and around the globe,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture. “The US is a very important seafood market to our provincial fishing industry and Boston is a key distribution point for seafood products going into the eastern part of that country. We look forward to meeting and networking with the industry at the show again in 2011.”

The United States represents the single largest market for Newfoundland and Labrador seafood products and the province’s fishing industry maintains effective business relationships with seafood buyers in the Boston area.

While in Boston, Minister Jackman will be hosting the annual Newfoundland and Labrador reception on March 19, which is considered by many to be the premiere event of the show. Approximately 500 industry representatives and guests will be in attendance and seafood producers from the province are providing high quality provincial seafood products for the event. The preparation will be led by excellent chefs from this province and presented in a professional and elegant manner to showcase the products in the most effective way.

“The Newfoundland and Labrador reception is the perfect opportunity to have industry buyers from across the globe sample the excellent seafood products from our province,” said Minister Jackman. “It is also a fantastic networking event for our provincial delegation and international seafood buyers alike. It provides us with the opportunity to demonstrate the hospitality our province is famous for.”

Minister Jackman will meet with various representatives from both the fishing and aquaculture industries during his time in Boston.

“We have an extremely full agenda again this year,” said Minister Jackman. “I look forward to the meetings that promote the best of what we have to offer. My department invests an incredible amount of time and work in this show every year. We are confident that our province will continue to see the benefits of that investment for many years to come.”
