Cabinet Ministers Meet with the Combined Councils of Labrador

Transportation and natural resource development were among the priority agenda items discussed during a series of meetings held recently in St. John’s, between Cabinet ministers and executive members of the Combined Councils of Labrador (CCL).

“The Combined Councils of Labrador provides a cohesive voice for all Labradorians,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs. “As past President of the CCL, I know how important it is to provide a clear picture of the issues and concerns specific to Labrador. As Cabinet minister, I now have the opportunity to continue my efforts to improve the quality of life for all Labradorians and I am pleased to honour the annual commitment of our government to meet with the executive of the CCL.”

Other members of Cabinet who participated in the meetings were: the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services; the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development; the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs; the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation; the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation; and, the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works.

Through the Northern Strategic Plan for Labrador, the Provincial Government continues to improve access to programs and services that reflect the unique challenges facing Labrador communities.

“Our meetings with Cabinet ministers went very well,” said Nath Moores, Acting President of the Combined Councils of Labrador. “The Provincial Government is certainly aware of the unique issues facing Labrador communities and we look forward to working together as we address these issues.”

The Combined Councils of Labrador will hold its 40th annual general meeting in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on February 22 to 25, 2012.
