Premier Announces Senior Appointments

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today two senior appointments within the public service.

In keeping with the important work of the Women’s Policy Office, Executive Council, in the areas of violence prevention, the promotion of equality and the advancement of women in Newfoundland and Labrador, the position of Assistant Deputy Minister in that office will be elevated to Deputy Minister. Heather MacLellan is appointed Deputy Minister.

Tanya Noseworthy is appointed Executive Director of Policy and Planning, Department of Natural Resources. Ms. Noseworthy was Director of Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination with Natural Resources.

“I congratulate Ms. Noseworthy and Ms. MacLellan on their appointments”, said Premier Dunderdale. “Their background and experience in the public service will be a great asset as they pursue their new responsibilities.”

Ms. MacLellan’s appointment will be effective November 21. Ms. Noseworthy’s appointment was effective November 14.

Biographical Information

Heather MacLellan
Heather MacLellan has served as Assistant Deputy Minister of the Women’s Policy Office since 2004. Prior to that, Ms. Maclellan was Assistant Deputy Minister with the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation where she was responsible for the development of provincial natural, cultural and heritage plans and policy, the federal/provincial cultural economic development programs, the provincial protected areas and wilderness reserves program, provincial historic sites and archaeology, the Arts and Cultural Centre program and other initiatives such as the Junos and the development of The Rooms. Before joining the provincial public service, she was superintendent, Parks Canada, Eastern Newfoundland; Superintendent of National Historic Sites Eastern Newfoundland; and Director of Marketing, Parks Canada, Ontario Region. Ms. MacLellan holds a Bachelor of Science from Memorial University and has pursued post-graduate studies at Acadia University in marketing and tourism.

Tanya Noseworthy
Tanya Noseworthy was most recently Director of Strategic Planning and Policy Coordination with the Department of Natural Resources. She has also held positions in the areas of program and policy development in the Transparency and Accountability Office, Executive Council; Treasury Board Secretariat; Department of Education; and Department of Health and Community Services. Prior to joining the public service in 2003, Ms. Noseworthy was the Human Resource Planning Consultant with the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association. She holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Master of Science from Memorial University.
