Annual Garden Party at Government House

His Honour the Honourable John C. Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Her Honour Jane Furneaux Crosbie announced today that the Annual Garden Party will take place at Government House in St. John’s on Wednesday, July 27, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm. Their Honours extended an open invitation to all citizens and visitors to the province to attend this annual outdoor celebration on the beautiful grounds of Government House on Military Road.

“We’re hoping for a large turnout for the garden party this year,” stated His Honour. This is the one event of the year when we can accommodate and truly hope that all residents and visitors will stop by for a couple of minutes or a couple of hours to enjoy the entertainment and hospitality.” This year’s garden party will include return performances by the Celtic Fiddlers, the Church Lads’ Brigade Band, and the Signal Hill Tattoo and for the children and young at heart, a first-time performance for the garden party by the Wonderbolt Circus. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Mounted Unit, featuring the RNC’s majestic Percheron horses, will also be in attendance.

The garden party commences with the Vice Regal Salute at 3 p.m. Guests are encouraged to mingle and enjoy the entertainment until approximately 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served throughout the afternoon by the Girl Guides. Her Honour noted that this is the 60th year anniversary of the Girl Guides serving refreshments at the garden party. “We are so proud and grateful for the longstanding support the Girl Guides have provided to the garden party,” stated Her Honour.

“Along with seeing old acquaintances, we truly enjoy meeting new people for the first time at the garden party,” stated Their Honours. “This is a wonderful opportunity for people to roam the beautiful grounds and gardens, and enjoy the magical atmosphere created by people gathered together to enjoy themselves.”

Guests should enter through the West Gate off Military Road. There is ample parking on site. In the case of inclement weather, the garden party will be moved to the following day, Thursday, July 28. For further information, the public is invited to call 729-4494.
