Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador Hosting Annual Conference of the Governor General, Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners
His Honour the Honourable John Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced today that he is pleased to be hosting the Annual Conference of the Governor General, Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners, in St. John’s, from June 27 to 29.
“I am extremely pleased that the Governor General of Canada, as well as my colleagues, the lieutenant governors and territorial commissioners, accepted my invitation last year to come to Newfoundland and Labrador for our 2011 conference. We are highly honoured to have these esteemed and accomplished Canadians meeting here.”
The governor general, lieutenant governors and territorial commissioners meet annually to discuss matters of mutual interest and to exchange views on how to most effectively serve Canadians.
His Honour noted that Canada’s new governor general, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, and Her Excellency Sharon Johnston, will participate in the annual meeting. Also attending will be newly appointed territorial commissioners: the Honourable Douglas Phillips from Yukon, the Honourable George Tuccaro, of the Northwest Territories, and from Nunavut, the Honourable Edna Elias.
“We are thrilled that we will have an opportunity to showcase Newfoundland and Labrador to vice regal representatives,” stated Mr. Crosbie. “This will mark the first year since 1997 that this annual conference has been held in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The annual conference will follow closely upon the heels of Their Excellencies’ first official visit to Newfoundland and Labrador, taking place from June 23 to 26.
