Premier Announces Appointment

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced a senior appointment, effective April 1.

Keith Deering has been appointed Assistant Deputy Minister (Agrifoods Development) in the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, Department of Natural Resources. He is currently with the agency as Assistant Deputy Minister (Forestry), a position he has held since 2007.

“I look forward to Mr. Deering’s continued contributions in his new role, and wish him well,” said the Premier.

Biographical Information

Keith Deering has been working with the provincial Department of Natural Resources since 1999, most recently as Assistant Deputy Minister (Forestry), Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, a position he has held since January 2007. Prior to that, he was Regional Director for Labrador for three years. His earlier positions with the department included District Manager for Southeastern Labrador, District Manager for Central and Western Labrador, and Regional Planner for all of Labrador.

Mr. Deering received a Public Service Award of Excellence in 2002 for his role in significantly improving the working relationship between the province and Innu Nation on forest management issues that resulted in a forest management plan that has received national attention for its approach to ecosystem-based forest management.

Prior to working with the provincial public service, Mr. Deering also spent several years working in various capacities with Natural Resources Canada. Mr. Deering graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry.
