Tentative Agreement for Medical Interns and Residents Reached

The Provincial Government has reached a tentative agreement with the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Newfoundland (PAIRN), the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board, announced today.

“I am pleased to report that government has successfully reached a tentative agreement with the association representing the province’s medical interns and residents,” said Minister Marshall. “These postgraduate medical trainees play an active role in the delivery of health care services in the province, and the agreement with PAIRN reflects this.”

The four-year agreement covers the term from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2013, and provides for adjustments to salaries and stipends.

The Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Newfoundland represents approximately 250 doctors enrolled in postgraduate medical training in the province.
