Premier Announces Date for By-Election in District of Humber West
The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, today announced that the by-election in the District of Humber West will be held February 15.
"I am pleased to announce that the constituents in the District of Humber West will have the opportunity to vote for new representation in the House of Assembly," said Premier Dunderdale. "As always, our government remains committed to ensuring that we do not have prolonged periods of vacancy in the House of Assembly. We look forward to a spirited and energetic campaign and encourage all eligible residents to vote on February 15.”
The House of Assembly Act was amended in 2004 to ensure by-elections are announced within 60 days and conducted within 90 days of vacancy. The seat was vacated when former premier Danny Williams resigned on November 25, 2010.
