Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Barachois River - Cartyville Area Forage Farm (Reg. 1613)
Proponent: Madore Enterprises Limited

The proponent proposes to develop approximately 20 hectares of land for forage production in the Barachois River - Cartyville area, near St. Fintan’s. The development of forage fields will require the removal of all vegetation including stumps and stones, leveling, addition of soil amendments and planting of forage seeds for grasses and legumes. The proposed development would provide quality forage for the dairy industry. Land clearing is proposed to begin in fall of 2011 and continue over a two to three year period.

The undertaking was registered on November 3, 2011; the deadline for public comments is December 9, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by December 18, 2011.

GUIDELINES ISSUED:

Bay de Verde Chitin Plant (Reg 1577)
Proponent: Quinlan Brothers Ltd.

The minister has issued final guidelines for the Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the above undertaking. The proponent is now required to prepare the EPR and submit the document for review by the Assessment Committee and the public.
