Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Reidville Regional Exhibition Grounds and Community Gardens         (Reg. 1609)
Proponent: Town of Reidville

The Town of Reidville proposes to construct and develop a regional exhibition ground and community gardens on a parcel of Crown land located adjacent to the Reidville Road next to the Viking Trail (Route 430). The project will consist of the construction of a roofed exhibition centre complete with washrooms, corrals, barn, show ring, community garden, parking, walking trail and craft kiosks to market local crafts and agricultural products.

Project construction start date is dependent on land acquisition and financing.
The undertaking was registered on October 11, 2011; the deadline for public comments is November 18, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by November 25, 2011.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED:

Bay de Verde Chitin Plant         (Reg. 1577)
Proponent: Quinlan Brothers Ltd.

On August 24, 2011, the minister advised the proponent that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required for this project. An environmental assessment committee has now been appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for preparing the EPR. The assessment committee has representation from the following government agencies:
