Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Bauline to Portugal Cove Hiking Trail (Reg. 1607)
Proponent: East Coast Trail Association

The proponent has submitted a proposal for the development of a 13-kilometre coastal hiking trail from Bauline to Portugal Cove. Operations will include construction of boardwalks, crib steps, retaining walls, signage, stairs and bridges. The proposed hiking trail will provide the tourist industry a safe hiking surface built to withstand a higher volume of traffic and minimize damage to sensitive environments. The work is scheduled to begin in early 2012.

The undertaking was registered on October 3, 2011. The deadline for public comments is November 7, 2011. The minister’s decision is due by November 14, 2011.

Argentia Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer Training Facility (Reg. 1608)
Proponent: Maher Group of Companies Inc.

The proponent intends to establish a facility at building #772M located in the Argentia Industrial Park to offer specialized training to pipe fitters. Trainees will be instructed in joining fiberglass reinforced polymer pipe sections using fiberglass and resins. The training program will operate for the duration of the construction phase at the Vale plant in Long Harbour, scheduled to be completed in February, 2013.

The undertaking was registered on October 3, 2011. The deadline for public comments is November 7, 2011. The minister’s decision is due by November 14, 2011.
