Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Lance au Loup ATV Trail                                                                                             (Reg. 1606)
Proponent: Lance au Loup Trailway Association

The Lance au Loup Trailway Association proposes to develop an extension to an existing trail system in the Grand Bank area. The project will consist of the construction of approximately seven kilometres of new trail that will join to approximately eight kilometres of existing dirt roads. This trail will allow access from the Lance Au Loup Trail system to the community of Grand Beach. The trail will be used by recreational vehicles such as ATVs, snowmobiles, as well as for cross country skiing and hiking. Construction of the trail will include manual labour as well as the use of an excavator and is expected to take three weeks to complete.

The undertaking was registered on September 16, 2011; the deadline for public comments is October 21, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by October 27, 2011.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Peter’s Pond Quarry on the Botwood Highway                                                            (Reg. 1605)
Proponent: Temple’s Backhoe Services Ltd.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to develop a two-hectare quarry on Crown land in the Peter’s Pond area off the Botwood Highway. No new access road construction would be required for this undertaking. The proponent intends to remove sand and gravel from the quarry and carry out crushing and screening on site with operations running from May through October.

The undertaking was registered on September 15, 2011; the deadline for public comments is October 21, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by October 30, 2011.
