Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Mount Pearl Commercial Spray Painting Booth (Reg. 1601)
Proponent: C&W Offshore Ltd.
The proponent proposes to establish a sandblasting and spray painting operation at 113 Glencoe Drive, Mount Pearl in the Donovans Industrial Park. Sandblasting will be conducted in a new building to be erected on the premises and painting will be done in a paint booth to be installed inside the existing building. The facility will operate Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The undertaking was registered on July 22, 2011; the deadline for public comments is August 30, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by September 5, 2011.
GFI Composites Ltd. Foxtrap Facility Expansion (Reg. 1600)
Proponent: GFI Composites Ltd.
The proponent has submitted a proposal to relocate and expand their fibreglass manufacturing facility to a leased 489 square metre facility at 54-70 Delaney’s Road in Foxtrap, Conception Bay South. This expansion will allow GFI Composites Ltd. to manufacture acrylic tub and showers for the residential housing market. Modifications to the facility include a four-metre fibreglass/styrene emissions stack and a dust extraction system. Excess raw materials such as resin, gel-coat and solvents will not be stored on site, rather delivered from a wholesaler as required.
The undertaking was registered on July 22, 2011; the deadline for public comments is August 30, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by September 5, 2011.
UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:
Labrador City Area Mineral Exploration (Reg. 1583)
Proponent: Alderon Resources Corp.
The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:
- A minimum 50-metre undisturbed buffer must be maintained around any water bodies within the Pike Lake South Management Unit.
- Activities should occur outside of the critical breeding period for waterfowl (May-June), during which time they are very sensitive to disturbance.
- Travel through wetlands should be avoided where possible and, when travel is necessary, proponent must ensure that habitat disturbance is minimal.
Loon Bay Area Vegetable Farm (Reg. 1579)
Proponent: Triple E Farms Ltd.
The undertaking is released from further environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:
- All existing siliviculturally treated areas must be removed from the proposal unless compensation is paid to the Crown as prescribed by the Forest Services Branch for the value of the silviculture investment.
- No access is to be permitted to the site through existing silviculture.
- A 50-metre buffer is maintained between the proposal and the existing silviculture area.
- A 100-metre buffer is maintained between the proposed undertaking and all quarries.
