Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

AMENDMENT TO UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Forest Management Districts 5 and 6 Five-Year Operating Plan  (2012-2016)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited                     (Reg. 1595)

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited has identified an amendment to their project description and provided a revised introductory section of the Forest Management Districts 5 and 6 Five-Year Operating Plan (2012-2016). The amendment is available and may be accessed on the department’s website.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Labrador West (Block 103) Iron Exploration Project
Proponent: Cap-Ex Ventures Ltd.                                             (Reg. 1596)

The proponent has submitted a proposal to carry out mineral exploration assessment work in western Labrador, northwest of Schefferville, Quebec. The work will consist of surficial trenching and diamond drilling with a minimum of 27 drill holes and 16 trenches. The trenches will be approximately 20 to 50 metres in length and one to four metres deep. An additional 18 drill holes and 14 trenches may be excavated depending on initial results. Equipment will be moved along approximately 14.5 kilometres of skidder-drill trails to be constructed by the proponent.

The undertaking was registered on July 19, 2011; public comments are due by August 23, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by August 27, 2011.
