Lockston Path Provincial Park Open for Day Use During Holiday Weekend

Lockston Path Provincial Park will be open for day use this coming Victoria Day weekend. The park will be open to patrons from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“Lockston Path park sustained an extensive amount of damage during Hurricane Igor, and a considerable amount of work has been done to date to repair the affected sections,” said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation. “This is a popular location for outdoor enthusiasts, and we will continue in our efforts to re-open Lockston Path for full usage as soon as possible. In the meantime, we are pleased to make it available for day use on the May 24th holiday weekend.”

For public safety reasons, the camping areas and hiking trails in Lockston Path will remain barricaded and will not be accessible to the public on the weekend. The day use section will not be available on Monday, May 23, as heavy equipment will resume operations in the park.

Six provincial parks will be open for the May 24th weekend - Barachois Pond, Butter Pot, Frenchman’s Cove, J.T. Cheeseman, La Manche and Notre Dame, with the others scheduled for opening late May and early June.

“Our commitment to improving and upgrading park infrastructure and making our park system more attractive to visitors and travellers has been quite evident over the past several years, through our $4 million Parks Renewal Strategy,” said Minister Wiseman. “We recognize the importance of accessibility to our natural heritage, and we ask for the public’s continued co-operation as we strive to quickly resume full operations at Lockston Path Park.”
