Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

GUIDELINES/SCOPING DOCUMENT FOR EIS APPROVED:

Labrador – Island Transmission Link
Proponent: Nalcor Energy                                                                                              (Reg. 1407)

The minister has approved the final Guidelines/Scoping Document for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Labrador-Island Transmission Link. The EIS Guidelines and Scoping Document identify the information that the proponent, Nalcor Energy, will be required to address in order to prepare the EIS.

The EIS Guidelines/Scoping Document is available on the Department of Environment and Conservation website at www.gov.nl.ca/env//env on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency’s website at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca.To obtain a copy of the document, please communicate with either contact listed below.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Loon Bay Area Vegetable Farm                                                                                      (Reg. 1579)
Proponent: Triple E Farms Ltd.

The proponent proposes to develop 187 hectares of Crown land for vegetable production off Route 340 near Loon Bay. The fields and farm access roads will be developed over an eight to 10 year period with 12 to 16 hectares of land cleared per year. Operation of the farm is planned between spring and fall and produce will be transported to the proponent’s warehouse in Comfort Cove for storage, grading and packaging. Construction of the farm will begin upon approval.

The undertaking was registered on April 27, 2011; the deadline for public comments is June 7, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by June 11, 2011.
