Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Forteau Municipal Park, Forteau River (Reg. 1570)
Proponent: Town of Forteau

The proponent proposes to develop a municipal park along the Forteau River, approximately three kilometres from the Town of Forteau. The park will include areas for camping and day-use amenities and also accommodate campers and trailers. The project is expected to employ two people for a period of five weeks. The proponent plans to start construction during the summer of 2011.

The undertaking was registered on March 24, 2011; the deadline for public comments is May 6, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by May 8, 2011.

Huguette Lake Sand and Gravel Quarry (Reg. 1571)
Proponent: H & H Enterprises Ltd.

The proposed project involves the development of a 1.5 hectare sand and gravel quarry approximately 500 metres southwest of Huguette Lake and 13 kilometres west of Labrador City. The site will be accessed via the Trans Labrador Highway and an existing gravel access road. The proponent proposes to develop the area as an open pit operation to produce sand and granular material such as concrete aggregates, class A and class B road material and for general construction work in western Labrador. Road upgrades and operations are scheduled to commence in May 2011.

The undertaking was registered on March 31, 2011; the deadline for public comments is May 6, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by May 15, 2011.

Wabush East Woodford Rock Quarry
Proponent: H & H Enterprises Ltd. Reg. (1572)

The proposed project involves the development of a 24-hectare rock quarry located approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Moosehead Lake and 12 kilometres east of Wabush. The proposed project will require the construction of a 500-metre access road from the Trans Labrador Highway to the site. The proponent proposes to develop the area as an open pit quarry operation to produce crushed rock for the construction industry and as ballast for the QNS&L Railway in western Labrador. Road construction and operations are scheduled to commence in May 2011.

The undertaking was registered on March 31, 2011; the deadline for public comments is May 6, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by May 15, 2011.
