Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Wooddale (Oram’s) Cranberry Farm (Reg. 1563)
Proponent: Oram’s Cranberry Farm

The proponent proposes to develop a cranberry farm in Wooddale, near Grand Falls-Windsor, in central Newfoundland. The farm will be located approximately five kilometres in New Bay Road. Approximately 10 hectares of cranberries will be farmed on the bog site. Development of the cranberry farm will include: ditching and berms, construction of a reservoir, irrigation and sediment ponds, plus a 12 metre by 12 metre wooden garage/office. Work to develop the cranberry beds is proposed to be carried out over five to seven years. Construction is planned to take place during the summer of 2011.

The undertaking was registered on March 4, 2011; public comments are due by April 12, 2011; and the minister’s decision is due by April 18, 2011.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PLAN SUBMITTED:

Bull Arm Site Environmental Protection Plan - Hebron Project Activities
Proponent: ExxonMobil Canada Properties

The Hebron Project is a proposed oil and gas development located offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, approximately 340 kilometres east of St. John’s. On behalf of the Hebron Project Proponents, ExxonMobil Canada Properties (EMCP) is leading the development of the Hebron Project. The Hebron production platform will be a Gravity Base Structure (GBS), supporting the topsides. The GBS will be built, as will components of the topsides and the entire platform assembly, at the existing Bull Arm fabrication facility in Bull Arm, Trinity Bay.

At the request of the Department of Environment and Conservation, ECMP has prepared an Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) for Hebron Project Activities at the Bull Arm Site. The EPP is intended to be a working document for use in the field by project personnel and contractors, as well as by the corporate level for ensuring commitments made in policy statements are implemented and monitored. The EPP was submitted to provide a quick reference for project personnel and regulators to implement appropriate environmental protection measures, monitor compliance and to make suggestions for improvement.
