Roofing Contract Awarded for Spaniard’s Bay School

Holy Redeemer Elementary in Spaniard’s Bay will soon have a new roof, following the recent award of a $387,590 tender to AMD Holdings Ltd. of St. John’s.

“The Provincial Government has taken a systematic approach to upgrading our schools in order to ensure our teachers and students continue to have comfortable environments in which to teach and learn,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “In the past eight years, more than 1,500 repairs and maintenance projects – including new roofs, windows, siding, electrical upgrades, and more – have been approved for schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”

The roofing work is expected to be completed by late spring 2012.

“This government remains committed to improving the province’s educational infrastructure and providing our young people with environments that promote learning,” said Glenn Littlejohn, MHA for Port de Grave. “This upgrading at Holy Redeemer will help to ensure that current and future students in the community will continue to learn and progress in this great school.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, includes $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Nine new schools have opened; five more are in various stages of planning or construction; 11 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
