Contract Awarded to Replace Roof at Coley’s Point Primary

A $444,022 contract has been awarded to NL Rubber Coating Corp. of St. John’s to replace the roof at Coley’s Point Primary School.

“The Provincial Government recognizes the importance of maintaining our K-12 infrastructure and providing safe, comfortable learning environments for our students and staff,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This latest project at Coley’s Point Primary brings the total investment in recent improvements to the school to more than $591,000.”

The project is expected to be completed by September 2012.

“The announcement today continues to show this government's commitment to upgrading school infrastructure within the province,” said Port de Grave MHA Glen Littlejohn. “The installation of a new roof at Coley's Point Primary, along with previous improvements, will ensure a quality educational environment for our children and their teachers.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, includes $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has approved more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Nine new schools have opened, five more are in various stages of planning or construction, 11 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
