Bonne Bay Academy to Receive Electrical Upgrades

Bonne Bay Academy in Woody Point will undergo close to $185,000 in electrical upgrades as part of the Provincial Government’s ongoing investment in K-12 infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Vision Electrical of Corner Brook has been awarded the contract to carry out the work, which is expected to be completed this spring.

“Over the past several years, the Provincial Government has been systematically upgrading electrical systems in existing K-12 schools to ensure they can continue to support emerging technologies in safe, comfortable learning environments,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This latest contract is in addition to $437,470 recently spent on roofing and other interior and exterior upgrades at Bonne Bay Academy, bringing the total investment in the school to more than $622,000.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador includes $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Nine new schools have opened; five more are in various stages of planning or construction; 11 major extension and renovation projects have been completed; and, seven more are under way or in the planning stages.
