Contract Awarded for Roofing at Stephenville High School

Noble’s Construction Ltd. of Springdale has been awarded a $260,287 contract to recap a major portion of the roof at Stephenville High School.

“The Provincial Government is putting an unprecedented amount of funding into maintenance and repairs to K-12 infrastructure across the province,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “Over the past eight years, we have taken a systematic approach to upgrading both the interior and exterior of our buildings. In fact, more than 1,500 projects have been completed to date and the work is continuing.”

This latest contract is in addition to more than $150,000 recently spent on previous projects at Stephenville High School, including an electrical upgrade to accommodate audio/visual aids for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

“I am very pleased with the funding allocated for roofing at Stephenville High School, along with the recent electrical enhancements,” said Tony Cornect, MHA for Port au Port. “These improvements are a further demonstration of the Provincial Government’s commitment to providing safe, healthy schools in which young minds can thrive, and which serve as comfortable work environments for teachers and staff.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, includes $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance. Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Nine new schools have opened; five more are in various stages of planning or construction; 11 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
