Over $200,000 in Provincial Government Scholarships Awarded
Scholarships valued at over $200,000 have been awarded to more than 200 recent high school graduates across Newfoundland and Labrador.The scholarships, which range in value from $1,000 to $2,500, are used to help students pursue post-secondary education. Eligibility for scholarships is based on public examination results.
“These scholarships acknowledge the hard work of so many students from communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. “The Provincial Government is making tremendous investments to ensure post-secondary education is affordable and accessible. These scholarships will also help these graduates with the costs of university and college, and support students who will become our future leaders.”
The Junior Jubilee Scholarship, valued at $2,500, is awarded to the student who attains the highest overall marks in the province. This year’s recipient is Shruti Raheja, a graduate of Gonzaga Regional High in St. John’s.
The Constable W.C. Moss Scholarship is awarded to the son or daughter of a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (active, retired or deceased) who, other than the Junior Jubilee winner, achieves the highest marks. This year’s recipient of the $1,000 scholarship is Stephanie Decker of Mount Pearl Senior High.
The Provincial Government also awarded $1,000 Electoral District Scholarships to the three high school graduates in each district with the highest marks.
Centenary of Responsible Government Scholarships, valued at $1,000, are awarded to the 55 students – other than the Junior Jubilee, W.C.Moss and Electoral District Scholarships – with the highest marks.
