School Infrastructure Improvements Planned for Lamaline
Tenders will soon be called to replace windows at St. Joseph’s Academy in Lamaline.
“This is among several infrastructure upgrades recently approved for K-12 schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. “This particular project builds on the $393,000 in earlier investments for improvements at St. Joseph's to ensure the school remains a comfortable environment in which to teach and learn.”
Minister Burke noted that since 2004, about 250 building envelope upgrades, including window replacements, have been completed or approved at schools throughout the province at a cost of $43 million. Almost $10.7 million has been allocated for K-12 infrastructure in the District of Grand Bank alone.
“This is great news for the people of the greater Lamaline area, as it demonstrates our government’s continued commitment to ensuring that our students and staff have a safe and secure learning environment,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment and MHA for Grand Bank. “Today’s investments will provide improved educational settings for our children today, and long into the future.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, provides $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance. Over the past eight years, more than $504 million has been allocated for school infrastructure.
