Tender Awarded for Improvements to St. Andrew’s Elementary

A tender valued at more than $1 million has been awarded to Anchorage Contracting for building upgrades at St. Andrew’s Elementary in St. John’s.

“The St. Andrew’s project includes the replacement of windows and exterior brick, the addition of new insulation, as well as improvements to the main entrance of the school,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. “These upgrades are in addition to work previously completed on new roofing at the school, and represent a combined investment of more than $1.6 million.”

Budget 2011: Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, provides $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance.

“The school community and the learning atmosphere at St. Andrew’s are very alive and vibrant,” said St. John’s North MHA Bob Ridgley. “I am pleased that, through these improvements to the physical structure, our government is able to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for enthusiastic teaching and learning to take place.”

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Seven new schools have opened, seven more are in various stages of construction, nine major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and nine more are underway or in the planning stages.
