Roofing Project Planned for Holy Family Elementary

The Provincial Government is investing more than $307,000 to complete a roofing project at Holy Family Elementary in Paradise.

“While schools are closed this summer, contractors are hard at work completing structural upgrades, repairs and maintenance to school buildings throughout the province,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. “This particular project involves the replacement of roofing over the gymnasium and some classroom sections, and is in addition to previous roofing work completed in 2010.”

The work, to be completed by NL Rubber Coating Corp., of St. Johns, is expected to be finished by mid-August.

“This has been a good year for the Town of Paradise, with two new schools opening and a major roof repair in the works for Holy Family Elementary,” said David Brazil, MHA for Conception Bay East - Bell Island. “This government continues to invest in improving our schools so as to provide a quality education and learning experience for students.”

In recent years, more than $2.1 million has been invested in Holy Family Elementary, including a new access road, additional classrooms, a new lunchroom and exterior brick and concrete upgrades.

Budget 2011: Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, provides $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance. Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Seven new schools have opened, seven more are in various stages of construction, nine major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and nine more are underway or in the planning stages.
