New Online Resources to Assist Students Preparing for Public Exams

The Centre for Distance Education and Innovation (CDLI), a division of the Department of Education, is offering enhanced online tutorials designed to help high school students prepare for public examinations in six Level III courses.

The resources are free of charge, and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at www.cdli.ca

“This year's enhancements include more than 140 additional hours of recorded material which are, for the first time, specifically focused on public exam preparations for six selected courses,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. “These resources are designed to complement classroom exam preparation, and to allow individual students to choose specific concepts, or course units, which they wish to review more thoroughly.”

The materials are in addition to the more than 1,700 online tutorials and course content reviews currently available through CDLI for more than 40 senior high school courses.

The courses which have enhanced content this year are as follows:

Minister Burke added that the success of this year’s offerings will be evaluated with a view to adding a public exam preparation component to other online course reviews in the future.

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested $68 million through CDLI to provide the province’s K-12 system with senior high school distance education programming, development and delivery of online teacher professional development, support for technology integration initiatives, along with computer hardware, interactive whiteboard technology, and key software packages.

CDLI currently offers 39 online courses to students attending 108 schools, primarily located in rural and remote communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
