Epiphany Elementary to Get $257,000 Facelift

New windows and siding valued at $257,000 will soon be installed at Epiphany Elementary in Heart’s Delight-Islington, with the tender for the work having recently been awarded to Atlantic Enterprises of Spaniard’s Bay.

“This project is the latest in a series of exterior upgrades to schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador that have been approved or completed in recent years,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Education. “Since 2004, more than $41 million has been allocated for 245 projects for everything from new windows to canopy replacements to brick and mortar upgrades. We recognize the importance of protecting our investment in schools by providing the necessary upgrades to ensure their longevity.”

Minister Burke noted that recent investments in Trinity-Bay de Verde area schools includes $481,000 worth of electrical and other upgrades completed last month at nearby Cabot Academy in Western Bay, and an upcoming project to replace the roof, and upgrade windows and stairs at Acreman Elementary in Green’s Harbour.

“I am very pleased with the significant infrastructure improvements planned for Epiphany Elementary,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde. “These upgrades will ensure safe and comfortable learning environments for the children attending this school. Commitments such as these reinforce our government’s dedication to providing a superior educational system throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Funding for this project is part of the $113 million allocated this year for K-12 infrastructure throughout the province. This includes funding for new schools, roofing projects, window and siding replacements, electrical system upgrades, enhanced accessibility and renovated skilled trades suites.

Over the past seven years, almost $465 million has been approved for new school construction, repairs and maintenance throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. This level of investment in school infrastructure is unprecedented in the province’s history.
