Province’s Aerospace, Defence and Security Capacity to Expand with
Investment by Provincial Government

Gladstone Systems Solutions (GSS) – a systems engineering, training solutions and software applications development company – is boosting its presence in the province with an investment of $500,000 by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The company is offering targeted products and services geared to the province’s growing aerospace and defence industry.

GSS is focused on the aerospace and defence and unmanned systems markets. An initial key priority will be the development of low-cost training devices and software applications to enhance safety and efficiency for aerospace companies.

“We are pleased to see Gladstone Systems Solutions broaden its business in the province and add to the already strong network of aerospace and defence companies here,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Business. “This move will result in the transfer of skills and a greater range of capabilities within the local industry, which will build capacity and better position the company to increase exports. As Newfoundland and Labrador’s aerospace and defence industry continues to reach new heights, the Provincial Government will continue to play an active part in supporting the sector’s enhanced competitiveness.”

GSS plans to create 30 new skilled positions over five years in fields such as engineering and computer science. In addition to the local aerospace and defence sector, the company will pursue customers in export markets.

“Gladstone Systems Solutions is very appreciative of the financial assistance received from the province to encourage GSS programs in the region,” said company president, Keith Gladstone. “With the growing demand for cost-effective job enhancement solutions that span the continuous learning spectrum from training to the work environment, GSS wants to establish a sustainable presence in the province that will provide electronic training media and electronic performance support systems. We also hope to leverage our extensive experience in aerospace to establish other capabilities that will focus on support systems for Uninhabited Aerial Systems, remote security system solutions, and avionic software applications. The key to success will be to work collaboratively with local companies and academia.”

The Provincial Government’s funding is being provided through the Aerospace and Defence Development Fund which is designed to support companies involved in aerospace and defence-related activities in the province to expand capacity, enhance their competitiveness, and avail of new business opportunities.
