Public Advisory: Road Access Restored to All Igor Affected Communities

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that the primary objective of reconnecting road access to all communities that had been isolated as a result of damage caused by Hurricane Igor has been achieved.

The final six reconnected communities include Upper Amherst Cove, Middle Amherst Cove, Open Hall, Tickle Cove, Old Bonaventure and New Bonaventure. A washout that had divided the community of Plate Cove East has also been repaired.

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution while travelling in storm damaged areas as construction continues and many sections are reduced to one lane. The department further advises that some of the road connections now in place are temporary in nature pending permanent repair work. Also, in many cases, long detours may be necessary when travelling throughout storm affected areas until all necessary repairs can be effected. Road crews will resume work on Monday to widen roads to improve access to affected communities.
