Crushed Stone Headed for Trans Labrador Highway in
Southern Labrador
Motorists travelling the Trans Labrador Highway (TLH) in Southern
Labrador will soon experience improved driving conditions thanks to a
recent tender call for the supply and application of crushed stone in
the area. The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and
Works, made the announcement today.
"This section of the Trans Labrador Highway has been a source of
concern for residents for some time and I am pleased that we are able to
make these investments in some of the areas most in need of upgrading,"
said Minister Hedderson. "This tender will allow us to make improvements
in this area to make the ride safer and more comfortable for anyone
travelling in this region. We will continue to invest strategically in
transportation, and other infrastructure, throughout the province as we
continue to roll out our infrastructure strategy."
The tender calls for the supply and application of crushed stone on
sections of the highway between Chateau Pond and Port Hope Simpson.
"We have been very responsive to the changing transportation needs
throughout Labrador," said the Honourable John Hickey, Minister of
Labrador Affairs. "This summer, rubber tire traffic to Labrador appears
to be up significantly. With the connection of Phase III of the Trans
Labrador Highway and the introduction of year-round ferry service across
the Strait of Belle Isle we are seeing increasing opportunities for the
people and businesses of Labrador and the entire province."
