Residents of Carbonear and New Harbour Areas
to Benefit from Road Improvements
The Williams Government is continuing to make road improvements
throughout the province through its unprecedented provincial
infrastructure strategy. Thanks to a recent tender call, road
improvements will soon be carried out in the Carbonear and New Harbour
areas.
"Our government's investments in roadwork throughout the past several
years have led to great improvements to this province's transportation
network," said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation
and Works. "We will continue to spend strategically to ensure that our
highway network, particularly in rural areas, is meeting the needs of
the residents and businesses who use them."
The tender includes the repaving of various sections of Route 70
between Incinerator Road and Goff Avenue in Carbonear and the
replacement of a culvert and associated roadwork in New Harbour.
"This work demonstrates our government's continued commitment to
improving roads throughout our province," said the Honourable Jerome
Kennedy, MHA for Carbonear-Harbour Grace. "These needed improvements to
Route 70 will be welcomed by residents and others travelling to the
area."
"The replacement of this culvert and associated
road upgrading in New Harbour will help to correct an existing flooding
problem in the area and be of benefit to motorists travelling in the
region," said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. "Improving the flow of
water at this location is great news for this area which has seen some
water damage in the recent past during periods of heavy rainfall."
