Bridge Improvements Coming to the Southern Shore
A tender has been called for the rehabilitation of
three bridges on the Southern Shore Highway as part of the Williams
Government's ongoing provincial infrastructure strategy.
"Through our investments in Budget 2010, we are making
improvements to highways throughout the province," said the Honourable
Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. "Bridges are an
integral component of our highway system and it is a priority for us to
ensure the necessary maintenance is carried out on these important
structures."
The tender calls for repairs to the abutments and
decking and for new expansion joints and rails on the Northwest Brook
Bridge near Trepassey and the Spout Brook Bridge near Aquaforte. Also
included in the tender are repairs to the abutments of the Quarry Brook
Bridge near Ferryland.
"I am pleased to see these improvements to three
bridge structures in the region," said Keith Hutchings, MHA for the
District of Ferryland. "Road infrastructure is key to economic activity
in all regions of the province including here on the Southern Shore.
These improvements will mean continued enhancement of our transportation
system for both our residents and visitors alike."
