Repairs Slated for Curtis Causeway Bridge
As the Williams Government continues to roll out its unprecedented
infrastructure strategy, motorists travelling throughout Newfoundland
and Labrador are continuing to benefit from highway improvements. The
Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works, today
announced that a tender has been called for repairs to the Curtis
Causeway Bridge at Dildo Run on Route 340.
"We recognize the importance of solid bridge infrastructure for the
safety of motorists throughout our province," said Minister Hedderson.
"Our bridges are inspected at regular intervals to enable us to better
manage the assessment and maintenance of these structures. We have
determined that the time has come to effect repairs to the Curtis
Causeway Bridge."
The tender calls for repairs to the bridge's pier footings. Work is
expected to be completed this fall.
"Safe and reliable highway infrastructure is vitally important to all
areas of the province, especially rural regions which look to capitalize
on tourism related opportunities each year," said Derrick Dalley, MHA
for the Isles of Notre Dame. "It is, obviously, also very important to
the many residents and businesses that use it on a daily basis and
necessary repairs to this bridge are certainly welcomed."
Budget 2010:
The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our
Future

road and bridge expenditures throughout the province. This funding will
be supplemented by an additional $57.9 million in Federal Government
funding for a total road and bridge investment of $235.6 million in
2010-11. The Provincial Government's overall infrastructure strategy
includes investments in municipalities, healthcare, education, justice,
social housing, transportation, and environment and conservation.
