Road Upgrades
Continue to Roll Out
Motorists travelling
along Routes 330 and 331 in the Bonavista North and
Lewisporte areas will soon experience safer and more
driver friendly roads thanks to a tender call for
upcoming roadwork that was announced today.
"Continued investment into road infrastructure is a
cornerstone of the Williams Government's unwavering
commitment to improving infrastructure throughout the
province," said The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister
of Transportation and Works. "The improvements to these
sections of highway will further enhance the driving
experience for all residents in these areas as well as
for the increasing number of visitors exploring our
beautiful province."
The tender is for upgrading and repaving of
approximately 13 kilometres of Route 330, between Pine
Pond Pit and Musgrave Harbour and a section of Route
331, between the intersection with Route 330 at George's
Point and the Horwood intersection. These projects will
be cost-shared 50/50 between the Provincial and Federal
Governments under the federal Infrastructure Stimulus
Fund.
"This is great news for the people of Bonavista North
and all users of our road system," said Harry Harding,
MHA for Bonavista North. "A great deal of work has been
done on Route 330 over the past several years and I am
pleased to see continued improvements to this important
regional highway."
"Increased tourism activity in this area is putting more
people on our roads every year," said Wade Verge, MHA
for Lewisporte. "Having a reliable and safe
transportation system gives everyone peace of mind,
whether they are travelling to work or school, or taking
in the wonders of our great province."
Improving the province's highways is one aspect of the
Williams Government's overall infrastructure program
valued at more than $4 billion over the next several
years which includes investments in healthcare,
education, justice, social housing, transportation,
municipal and other provincial infrastructure.
