Provincial Government Rolls Out More Roadwork

The Provincial Government has called two more tenders for roadwork to be completed this construction season. The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works, made the announcement today.

"Our government is committed to investing strategically in highway infrastructure throughout the province," said Minister Hedderson. "Through our unprecedented levels of funding over the past several years, we have been making travel on our highways safer and more enjoyable for all who use them."

These latest tenders are for the following projects:

  • Upgrading and repaving of approximately eight kilometers of Route 60, Conception Bay Highway, between the communities of Colliers and Harbour Main. The project will be cost-shared 50/50 between the Provincial and Federal Governments under the federal Infrastructure Stimulus Fund.

  • The construction of an interchange on the Trans-Canada Highway at Sunnyside. This project will be cost-shared 50/50 between the Provincial and Federal Governments under the Major Infrastructure Component of the federal Building Canada Fund.

"Route 60 is an important stretch of highway in the Conception Bay region and I am pleased that this important work will be carried out this summer," said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, MHA for Harbour Main. "This work will benefit the many residents and tourists travelling in this beautiful and historic area of the province."

"A new interchange at Sunnyside will make this section of the Trans Canada Highway safer for all motorists especially those looking to access the communities of Sunnyside and Come By Chance," said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. "People have wanted this interchange for some time and we are certainly pleased to see it become a reality."

Highway upgrades are part of the Williams Government's overall infrastructure program valued at more than $4 billion over the next several years which includes investments in healthcare, education, justice, social housing, transportation, municipal and other provincial infrastructure.
